Spent 4 months, living and working (performing) in NY. Everything from busking in Central Park, to a nightly, weekday spot, on a local TV channel. Also recorded the first album that I made. Oh, it sold under 10k in the first week. 🥴

Remember getting stopped coming back from the Lyceum in the Old Kent rd by OB at some ungodly hour drunk asleep in the back of my brothers mini as a 15 yr old but think this 76. They did a stop and search desperate to nick us for something lifted the carpets for drugs, convinced car was stolen but it wasn't took us down police station in police car, wouldn't let my brother drive it threatened to nick me for underage drinking due to my breathe I denied it. Tested my brother but it came up negative I couldn't believe it he had about 9 pints? So they released the car had to let us go had pounded the car to check over and we drove off, mental.

Fucking hell, just Googled 1979 albums.
Some proper classics on there, although no mention of Mods May Day at the Bridge House?
Shurly shome mishtake.
However despite all the classic albums doing the rounds then, my overriding memory of '79 is receiving my first hand job, and reciprocating with my first foray into fingering, at Pipers caravan park in Dymchurch.
Not bad for a 14 year old (me, not the recipient of my digit).

No, mate, I'm right.

1) As I made quite clear in my post, neither the Bank Rate or MLR (set by the government pre Brown) or now he Base Rate (set by the MPC of the Bank of England) are the same thing as the Mortgage Rate, which has never been set by the PM.

2) Consistently doesn't mean the same as constantly. It means with few exceptions. Here is a chart of MLR and Base Rate for the past 30 odd years. From November 1989 it falls, um, consistently:

Well, you’re wrong anyway.

1. Until 1997, the government set the base rate
2. It peaked at 17% in 1979, but hasn’t fallen consistently since then. It’s fluctuated up and down.

'December 79 my mortgage rate was 11.75%. That month in the HoC Thatcher announced that from the beginning of 1980 the rate would rise to 15%.'

Just a couple of small points.

1) The PM doesn't now and didn't then set mortgage rates. They are and were set by the banks and building societiesin competition with each other.

2) Base rates peaked at 17% in November 1979 and have fallen consistently ever since.

Apart from that - the entirety of your post, you are correct in every respect.
